The Montessori Method
The Montessori Approach to Early Childhood Education
The Falls Church Montessori school is a contemporary provider of Montessori early childhood education. The Montessori system was created more than 100 years ago by an Italian physician and educator, Dr. Maria Montessori. The system stresses independence, freedom within limits, and an inherent respect for a child’s natural, physical, and social development.
Specific characteristics of the Montessori system include:
Mixed age classrooms
Ability of students to choose from a host of instructional lessons and materials, all within the prepared classroom environment
Uninterrupted blocks of work time
Learning through hands-on work, with specialized materials and lessons
Unique Montessori educational materials and methods
Freedom of movement within the classroom
Trained Montessori professionals
Additionally, Falls Church Montessori implements a curriculum and approach to early childhood education, which goes beyond, the core academics of lesson time. Students are taught and guided to be responsible, independent, caring, and generally more mature. This facet of our approach is extremely unique. Having well-rounded student development is a goal we continually strive for- and achieve!
