Admissions Process and Procedures

Understandably, many parents are curious about the admissions process at Falls Church Montessori.

The first step in the process is a tour. Prospective families interested in learning more about our school, may schedule a tour where parents can sit down with one of our Directors, and begin a conversation about our programs, and your child.

Each tour is specific to an individual family, so discussions can be more focused on specific needs, interests, and questions. However, the topics of curriculum, daily routines, schedules, as well as admissions process are regularly covered. Typically, tours last about 45 minutes, and are generally scheduled for the morning academic hours.

To avoid disruptions to daily activities, the number of tours on any given day are limited, so it’s a good idea to request a visit at least one to two weeks in advance, to ensure you can be accommodated.

During an initial campus tour, prospective Falls Church Montessori families are also given a short facility tour, such that they can begin to develop an understanding of how the school is structured.

Following the completion of a tour, those families who seek to join the Falls Church Montessori community may submit an Application for Admission. Upon receipt, this application will be evaluated by administrators. As a private institution, Falls Church Montessori considers a variety of criteria and factors in making a determination of whether to admit an applicant.

Following a favorable review of an Application for Admission, the family of the prospective student will be notified, and asked to visit the facility – with their child – as a final step in the Falls Church Montessori admissions process. During this visit, the school and visiting family, will collectively have a 15-20 minute ‘meet and greet’ session.

During this informal interview, the applying child will go into an age-appropriate classroom, generally with his or her parents. The visiting child, may also be encouraged to try out a few Montessori lessons, as well as meet some of their prospective new teachers and classmates. This visit also allows Falls Church Montessori to conduct a brief evaluation of the child and family. Additionally, the visit gives prospective FCM parents, an sense of a typical classroom lesson time and its dynamics.

Usually within 24- 48 hours of this visit, Falls Church Montessori staff will inform the family of the applicant as to admission status. Families who earn admission, can complete the process by completing and returning all outstanding documentation and payments.
